Painting: Leith Shore
The artist has captured a busy scene at a time when The Shore was the main harbour for Leith. Both paddle-steamers and sailboats are shown in operation. The sailing ship at the right of the painting has a Dutch flag – this indicates Leith’s importance in the North Sea and Baltic trade routes. Arthur’s Seat is shown in the distance. The painting is signed ‘A. Mitchell 1880’.
