The building

Bless this house to the poor

The two carved-stone panels on the exterior wall of Trinity House belong to the fabric of the 16th-century almshouse.

One of them carries an inscription reading: 'In the name of the Lord ye masteris and mariners bylis this hous to ye pour.  Anno Domini 1555'.  This provides a clear indication of the intended use of the building.
Almshouse

Built in the 1550s, the almshouse stood for 250 years before it was replaced with the current building.  Parts of the older building survive.
